I left about 30 I want to welcome everybody here what are welcome everybody here exciting time my name is Phillipsburg High School principal and we're excited about you being here and I know you're excited about being here it's okay to feel a little nervous too I was in that seat alone little bit of nervous about changing to another campus the high school is going to ease that transition little bit there's a question or anything that you have you can ask any one of us I'm I'm going to be up here just going to be up here in this Camp is going to be up here so we talk through these things and give you an idea of how things are at the high school if there's a question or anyting find one of us. after we're done if you don't want to raise your hand in front of everybody but if you don't want to do that that's fine but if you have a question let us know things are going to be a little different as I get into this than what you have been doing probably in the past as far as Junior High to high school probably a little bit little bit different for you compared to what you did in junior high. You know for example there's more things to do in the high school there's more things to get involved with their just diply is just there's more organization there's more supports to be involved in you know there's not all the sports that we have and high school to get to participate in in junior high so there's going to be some opportunities for you to do the things that you have done before there's one act play dnhs student council secla and we encourage you to do those things been going on at Mason High School as long as I can remember back to mr. G days over here we want you to participate and be involved and the things that we offered High School if you are as what how what you going to do it's we we really want you to do that we want you to be at sport it wants you to be in this event we want you to be in that event and that's going to be something that you're going to be able to do what you start right now first day of school for Stuart is an impostor has already started in band and it's going to go all the way and staying busy and staying in ball there's a high correlation between people that stay busy and staying involved and in six success in your class work but she also have a lot to gain and you know there's been a lot of really really great people that have graduated nasty wise and Ginger's you're the next step we're glad that you're so I just it's just going to be a little bit different for you you're going to be involved in more things and you're also going to have to be able to manage your time at something that I talk to these people a lot we have Monday morning assembly and we talked about managing our time a lot it's important for you to be able to manage your time it I can't go through this because I have this to do I can do that after I do this and that's the way your brain I got to work when you get high school and take care of the things you can take care of you maybe in the spring and you may be in golf and you may be in baseball then all the sudden you got to turn around and go to are you why are academic me on this day then you're going to go show your animals and from January all the way through March you going to be busy okay and you got to be able to manage your time being able to handle this okay well I can't do this after school I'm about to go to bed this morning. That's what managing your time is and you probably had to do that a little bit but you're fixing to find out that's going to be something that we're going to have to crank up one of the things that I just talked about it quite a bit the first day of school is the importance in the the security measures that were using the school year that we're putting in place the school year there's several things that we're going to be doing mainly mainly the the main thing you need to know is this thing away listen to the school no longer before a set amount of time are there beaches in all so when there are going to be some safety measures it will be a learning curve for everybody but it's for your protection and that's the number one gold moms and dads and aunts and uncles has to take care of them and we want to make sure we're doing this and keeping them safe and give him an option to be successful while they're here but we'll talk about that in great detail trust me the first day of school at our First Assembly we do have a talk about that we want you to sit up and down the thing of the past I want you to be able to look at somebody when they're talking if you're looking down you're telling that person is not that important okay so when we have people that can simply to give a speech from not not from Mason weathers I mean they could be from wherever I'm at different colleges or universities or whatever it may be we want them so when they walk out this building to say all those people know what they're doing but they know how to treat people they know how to look people know they want to listen to and pay attention and that's what we want to make sure we do and that's going to be at every assembly every Monday if we had don't have school on Monday it'll be on the next Tuesday we have extremely high expectations here we have been a blue whale I know you all know that everybody knows that okay we just got her a rating for the high school we made a 97 it's the third highest in the region out of 60 school we were number 3 and there's room to get better 97 and that was an A and we got all the things that comes with doing that cuz I don't want to get into the bore you with all that but I'm just going to tell you we have a very very high expectations with one of those dark up this path that's a combination of athletic and in fact some of our highest performing point where I condemn it and so it's it's something that we've talked about for the last seven or eight or nine years and now we're getting to be the school that everybody knows they have to be and that's good I like being at the top and I like it when people don't like it I love it love it so we are we do have high expectations he wants you to do great there is a I've heard this before freshman can't do very well I think that is not I'll just be nice that's not accurate we expect you to excel we expect you to Excel on the football field on the Banfield on the tennis court of course in the classroom we expect you to be good you don't have to wait until your finger statement because everybody got me choose to be good right now and you can do it there's been a lot of people that I've heard this before and then the next few months the K-State check just remember that what are the things why we feel like we are up accessible and in Mechanicsville is because we expect a lot of you never won our staff is top-notch our staff is tremendous they've been here a long time experience they say they care about you they care about you for their class they care about you for the other classes and they care about you when you're not in any of those passes and you're out the form and whatever you do they want you to do things the right way because your reflection of them also to question when you go off and do your saying your reflection of your parents the stool to town everybody understand that and that's what we want you to be able to do and go do definitely okay very well Community Support I mean our community shows for us it's just whatever it is they will show up and be supportive of you. things that if you've lived at others in other towns and gone on the school but you may have seen it and it I my guess is it's probably not quite as good as what it is cuz I'm finna stick school as a coach and none of them can hold a candle to the support PS4 we don't tolerate bullying and harassment including cyberbullying we're going to talk about those things that treat each other right that's really the main thing with me if you treat each other right then we don't have to worry about that we don't have to talk about that okay and if there's a situation we want you to feel comfortable coming to us if you know of something that's not right it's in a factor star school website if you want to come tell me or miss Canfield or customer at the situation about a bull you know some just not right and you want to go do that that's great we would encourage you to go do that cuz we want everybody to feel safe when they're okay but if there's a situation where that makes feeling comfortable and you don't want to come talk to any of us you can go on our schools website it's on the front page of our schools website the far-right purple box it says Anonymous reporting that button and you can report something okay I wanted to share that with you too I just got updated I want to just tell you all this all this stuff right here comes down to one thing and I'm going to tell you this and this is free advice already fed the ready this is really important that you understand this and you're going to hear it a lot the whole lot I just follow the rules the first time follow the rules the first. And then you're going to be just fine you're going to enjoy your high school experience and I'm just going to tell you it's going to go by very very very fast okay but you follow the rules the first time you're going to realize have to go visit that guy every single day or me every single day you get to have people that just don't stay on you all the time but if you don't follow the rules guess what we're on you everyday that lady nothing y'all don't but we're going to stay on we're going to make you do your work you're going to we're going to make you act right we're going to make you follow the Heron and dress policy we're going to make you do all those things but you're going to have a great day when you come in here this is the last thing when you come in here for a sembly all the senior sit up here and we kind of work our way back to you guys y'all been to the oldest ones on campus 7th y'all the other the coolest so now you're not now you're back down at the bottom okay good thing is here is we're all fighting for the same team we all have that purple horseshoes on our shirts and our caps and so we're all supportive of everybody but what everybody to have success but y'all are going to sit in the very back and I sent back. 1991 I get it and everything every year you get to move up a few road but I'm just going to tell you when you move on you start from back there it's a quick transition to the front and before long you're going to be like oh my goodness that that was a fast for years so enjoy what you're doing I look forward to your success and when you have something that doesn't work out well we'll get through it I promise you that's what makes you a good okay I'm happy to be here with you if you have a question don't know where to find me I'm always around thanks for your attention I think coach Smith is up now discipline issues from the attendance issues you know before I start Burns did tell you how old he was and you can do the math coach Smith on the dean of students I'm going to deal with this first thing is registration form registration forms turned in a purple form and a blue form of release make sure we get those in by Friday if you have it turned on turn off your cell phone Christian Fields along the way those parents might want to pay tuition just a little bit too we have what we call a compulsory attendance guiding us unexcused absences we need basically what that mean anytime your student is absent anytime y'all are in make sure you bring back a note telling us why you were asking if we want it back the day that you come back but you have three days to get it turned it okay until we get that note back you go to the doctor back from the doctor if you I don't know no one give us that note back saying that you went to the family trip whatever the reason is that's going to take care of the unexcused Tanya that we're about to start a behavior improvement with that what's the tension can go Saturday guy so just make sure that you bring back milk that's the easiest way I could describe that the other attendants issue we have is if you miss too many days for any reason if you miss more than you're going to have to start going to Saturday school to make about Saturday once you if you miss too many days if you miss more than 25% today than any class you're not going to be able to get credit for that class and you're going to have to take that class so that's why it's important for me once you reach a certain threshold I'm going to be calling you to find out why why are we missing to me today there's a relation between the number of days that you miss me break hardly ever miss a day of your grades are going to be pretty good if you have a great start to split we don't want to be making sure that you're and learning aren't you successful on the football field arena in the band whatever it is but the reason we're here is to attend class to learn something very very important if you come to school for any part of the day guy so maybe you show up for the first 30 minutes of class or something in the morning and then you go to the doctor bring back that note is like a kid was here all day so if you go to the doctor at 8 and it's going to be like they were here all day for the most part but that's very important for 88. VA funding threshold for the day is very important very very important and help us but that's just a good General how to make appointment later in the day if possible and I left. And remember to bring the last thing I'll say is this who wants to grab her butt who wants to go out with you all right if your grades are bad in your tennis bag guys we got to sign off on it so that's just another reason to have good grades and get it show me real quick dress code issues I guess you would say or just discipline issues here's the way that we do discipline discipline that we're going to work we're going to start with less attention if you approve institutions in a six weeks when you're going to bump up to what we call a level one referral that's if you said that you were able to get some spots but we want to stay away from it that's why we bump up each time that we have a infraction all that October at the end of six weeks don't want to have those issues are all of them make sure you're at school on time alright misbehaving in the classroom remember that you're there to learn not to talk to your buddies and not to mess around and make jokes and if you're Miss dress code we do have a pretty strict dress code around me you got to be able to I know it's hard sometimes but that's what we're doing you can do whatever it takes to fix that problem or here's what's going to happen to me or if you come to school and you forget to put pants on without holes oh you took it off every so if you come with home we're going to give you a piece of duct tape and we're going to stay covered up and you look really cool with duct tape walking around I'll let you know when I work with your parents were never going to can your kid home because they're out a dress so we'll try to help them and give them the opportunity I have everything you possibly need we don't want them going home but we do want them following dress code probably a new one for you no more than four inches 24in off the ears out of the eyes and it can't be on a collared shirt you had a button-up collar shirt I know some of us like the what we call it we want that all set call make sure that we deal with that before we come to school first day of school what are some other ones do I get a cell phone I'll just go through some no phone advertising alcoholic or tobacco products of any sort pictures profanity anything like that on your shirt no body piercings at all except for in the ears girl voice is getting heavier and no sleeve t-shirts boys Caps or not in building in the building and Shop sideburns less than the length of the ear that's a boy's some point if you're coloring your hair girls it's got to be natural hair color guide natural hair color directions to the hair policy will give you 3 days to fix it if it's not fixed after those 3 days you going to lunch detention if you ask coach Brian's how long I'm not sure he's going to want it done now but you have the three days just take care of that way doctor what he says beginning follow the rules we don't have problem girls no spaghetti straps anything less than 2 in on the shoulder we don't want to see any undergarments of any store short shorts and shirts for us to do on the short we got a new probably recognize that I don't know I don't understand what I do so it's got to be no more than 3 inches from the knee the top of your knee three inches from that I don't care if you measure your shorts every single morning when you wake up that would save me from having to do it you're walking down the hallway and your shorts come up on your legs easy for me to just make sure that were in dress code with the shortened best 10 cell phones ever so when you walk in that phone off I'll tell you this and I hope that y'all can help back this a little bit when I take up cell phones or a teacher takes up a cell phone one is going to give him a detention is going to cost you or them $15 okay you don't want to have to pay that they probably don't want to have to pay that I already worked at 3:30 and I don't have access to the state law says you can do that but it shouldn't be on during the day it should not be in the building if they want to use their phones during lunch passing Fury whatever it is they could step outside the door turn it on all who they need to long as they're not late that's the policy you need to get ahold of him and kind of a require that you do it the old school way you're not to call the office 34711 22 and we will get a hold of your your child it may be an inconvenience for you to understand that but that is for their benefit when I take out phones and student and I set them on my desk they'll be 40 or 50 text messages Instagram photo I don't even understand what they all are child is probably the same way I got you but that cell phone is going off just like that and it's muted or it's a vibrating and thinking about nothing but what's going on who's texting me who's Snapchatting me what pictures coming through what am I missing in a lot of schools have no. and they're just Banning I would have greeted cell phone call just a problem in the fastest so help us out and they're going fast can we pick up the phone because it doesn't really matter if we're still going to take it up still going to be $15 this will go get them will get the message to him it does not it does not it is only required by the ocean good question nursing reasons for that but there are it's only required for the benefit if you're thinking about something other than what that teacher is teaching in class you're missing an opportunity to learn so help us out on that beat and really work hard it will help your grade up from I know that any medication. We can't allow students to be carrying around medicine in their bag it's just against the rules but all medicine need to be administered through missed out last thing I'll say I know what went wrong there my students came here to hopefully make sure that you have an enjoyable safe and productive day and that's what we're here for so if you have problems come talk to me sing this is Canfield otherwise I really only see me when we have two you should probably not hope you have a great year we're going to go over all this stuff okay if somebody knows how to make your cell phone ring on your computer someone needs to show wouldn't happen in the spring if y'all are just wonderful and we're so glad that you're Mason High School students in that right okay just like coach Burns and Smith said if y'all have any trouble with any sense where there is your classes your schedule something whatever the case maybe I've had three Adele very seriously you're going to tell me anything that's going to be surprising to me that I've already heard of you ride and you've got a little handy dandy piece of paper that has the a a and b day schedule on it and has the Bell schedules everybody what is still that out you're supposed to go to work on your schedule that has your classes look at that and see where it says 0 1 4 won the very first day in on the left hand side if you were once that is your one a class so now go over to your ate a DJ spin that last a spa raise your hand if you having trouble I mean sorry schedule and write it in that place at 10:02 okay if it says 0 to that your 1B all right now we're looking for 03 and what class is that going to be who weighed that's right what is your one sees me to be class which which one is that Ho-Oh for that stress so now find on your list of classes where it says 04 and you're going to go like that where it says to be we have served. A lot of it. What do you have time. somebody has our yes a lot of y'all have Athletics okay class everyday or whatever you have what's after 3rd. and you get to leave campus for lunch if you can find a ride and if your parents left you okay love y'all have a driver's license now look at notice that we all next we have for a and that's going to be worth 06064 a and then 0714 going to be Scourby and in your last class for a lot of you is going to be banned and go to everyday so find what you have 08 and put that down . that's the last Laura is everybody got that filled out does anybody have any questions raise your hand assistance to help you take your phone out and take a picture of that thing take a picture of that schedule you need to know that schedule when you're at home so you know what classes you have for neck quit taking picture and internet phone back off and put it back in your pocket good job everybody put the phone away and put it back in your pocket and tell you something that could be life-changing for you or you the secret in Mason High School you must do your homework on the day is it it is a sign okay first day of school it's going to be okay everybody with me on that Hannah what do you have one a so Hannah is going on the first day of school and she's going to go home and do that homework on the date it's a son on Wednesday the 8th. If she doesn't kids in the front row who's been here and learn the lessons she doesn't do it on the days that she's going to about World Geography at one single pass next time she's going to remember is when she walked Edward's room on Friday morning first. Text Pete Ice mobile okay the same thing will happen to all of you unless you take my advice all right and these people have taken my advice some of them I'm stealing these two gentlemen right here maybe have to learn it the hard way in the right thing you can do kids we just like coach Byrnes High School you're going to end up at the end of high school with what score transcript and it's a record of all of your grades from high school and that's what you're going to stand out to colleges and scholarship and they're going to look at your transcript and they're going to say yes this kid is awesome come on sure freshman tips all okay be successful started on day what your grades everything that you make count just your your freshman Grace count just as much as your senior Grace can you believe it's true true that's the very first Rattle of box notice on your schedule that's the belt we have different types of simile then we have if we get an extended lunch we love an extended lunch cuz if you noticed we get extra time for lunch awesome Indian I want you to notice tutorial okay all right if you do your how do you get algebra homework and you say okay I know how to do one through nine but I cannot figure out how to do the very next morning to go to miss coach classroom and you say oh my gosh I can't figure out number 10 and she says we'll sit down and I'll show you how to do it now your homework now it's ready to turn in the very next class. See what I'm saying so use your now if you if you're not going to take my advice and there may be one or two people here who don't take us you're going to get below a 70s time and the teacher is going to say Jason Jacoby okay and then and then he has to go to how old is Mother that's never happened before has it no I didn't think so set. 7:50 to 8:15 that's classified as a class so that they have a mandatory so make sure student if you can't manage more squirrels you understand you have to be there that's part of the school day he said a lot of kids use those tutorial times to get extra help sometimes there's meeting organizational sometimes to get together but I don't know what to do you say to them toriel toriel there's so many times that kids will come to my office and they'll be behind and I'll first thing I'll say is we'll have you been going to tutorials okay well that's what that score okay it's part of the sea YouTube R6S anything's you can always email me you can come by the office if it's available okay so if there's anything you're unsure about always come see me or call me or extracurricular activity and we talked about art Lonestar this is our third one we get a lot of states and that's what this here is about to talk to you about so I'm going to turn this over to them and then they're just going to go and talk to you about all the ways there is to get involved in extracurricular in high school studies show Texas A&M College of Iceland its main goal is said those are serious if you are available in its ninth through 12th grade students who are interested any health care you can do job shadowing college campus visit meeting for medical students virtual mentoring and Bar I joined the initiative a little bit later last year Scott luxury and then just look at the human heart a word like students that were there and we got to get on one on one Wednesday so if you're interested at all hi I'm the ladies. I need the cheerleaders this year everyone has a pep rally on Friday High School dance team days every Friday stopped like Watervliet post office. and then in January Barstow hi my name is Avery Brian's and I'm going to talk to you all about the future and will have call child's next junior high you don't have to write a speech or anything you just sign your name election is a great way to be in extracurricular and it looks great when is start with hello Ashley at the beginning of September and it's a great way to get on my way Bishop I'm tired of that but exterior Mason High School in I play football basketball and track and one thing I will say is that I will say we have a tradition of Excellence here so I was my name is Jason Jacoby talking about Blue Ribbon service day and Monday morning symbols so Monday morning assemblies senior sit here you and your sophomores and freshmen don't try to sit up here just going to be talked about like the plans like we did good last week you basically I talked about last week if you did good last time we'll get an extended lunch and that's always good it's all about the plans and then we're the service station just you don't go to school store on the town in like it's like during October and November a thing so then you just like go downtown with the group teachers of Christian Griffin with the teacher well I'm actually seeing you here at Mason High School seniors upperclassmen but fan is a great way to make friends with the upperclassmen make a lot of memories on Friday night to go support football players we have a way game are in the end of May March 2nd kind of scare you can still do color guard you don't have to worry about there's academic event so if you really like Matthew if you are kind of hesitant that you're interested if you're into do you know it's really good it will help you with your other phone I'm also for what you are with those people a lot practice is really long from around 6 sometimes 6:30 to 9 or later 3 days a week on work but it pays off we won State last year really good programs fabulous directors and assistant directors and it's a great way to get involved with people and a lot of fun so you can talk to me about it you'll have a free English class kind of directs are all you guys little bit about fornication we're in school in a lot of you guys say that person but it's really just so you can go before the girl and the girl that's a boy's nails done you ask Dave Ramsey you don't have one you might want to start asking it's in November so it's coming up pretty quick walk down like a stage Old Town Elementary and then afterwards it's probably nothing like a dude a lot more fun, and if you don't ask around if you don't want to do it usually gets dresses for girls so I suggest you go my name is Ava and I play basketball and softball and then we have cross country and so don't be scared as a freshman I wouldn't charge you did you can and do as much Miranda Wood call wife which our leadership is chapter 2. not only get involved in stuff in school but outside of school which are and like I said for me that's just sometimes I do and you can show with those at China right now program as much as possible and I hope first organization in charge of organizing your day was Southwest Watson some creative Cecilia is not doesn't take much time at all and September 1st in the 70s lunch is always provided at all the meetings which is really really good it's a great way to also get involved make new friends and does it go in February taking people out to lunch with the really big deal so different Thursday how to spell expired at the school Casey
