Local Scholarships

1. The following scholarships use the
MHS General Scholarship Application.

One application will serve to apply for the following scholarships.  The deadline is April 1st. Type "General Scholarship App" in the name of the scholarship line, save it as a pdf and name it with your name. Then email it to Mrs. Canfield.

Association of Texas Professional Educators
Must be planning to become a teacher to be eligible.
 
Billy & Frances Bode Scholarship
All seniors planning to pursue education after high school are eligible. 
 
Central Texas College Scholarship If you are going to take on-line classes from Central Texas College next year, you are eligible for a scholarship. There will be one recipient from MHS. The scholarship is for tuition for 12 hours, about $2,900. To apply, turn in a general scholarship application with CTC Scholarship on the title line.
 
Dewey Stockbridge Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student who will attend Texas A&M University and major in wildlife related studies.
 
Eldon Kothmann Memorial Scholarship
For students who will attend a technical college or trade school. 
 
Gene Tobey Memorial Scholarship 
Use the MHS General Scholarship Application. Must be working toward a career in an art related field. 
 
George & KK Brannies Scholarship to TSTC
Use the MHS General Scholarship Application. Must attend TSTC Sweetwater or TSTC Waco to be eligible.
 
HEB Scholarship
Deadline is April 20th
 
Hext Volunteer Fire Department 
For a student who will enter a trade. Examples are Dental Hygiene, Paramedic, Welding, Nursing, HVAC, Plumbing, etc. Consideration given to need. 
 
Linnda Hubbell & Oscar Lee Graham Scholarship
Use the MHS General Scholarship Application.
 
Lowe's Foods
Preference given to Lowe’s employees. 
 
Mason County News Scholarship
Members of the Branding Iron Yearbook staff or students who will study journalism in college are eligible to apply.
 
Mason ISD Employees' Scholarship
Recipient must be planning to pursue a career in education. 
 
Matt Morris Memorial Scholarship
To be eligible to receive this scholarship, you must be pursuing a degree in the field of agriculture.  
 
Matt Puckett Memorial Scholarship
All seniors planning to pursue education after high school are eligible.
 
Sandy Miller Memorial Scholarship
For any student who will attend a college, university, technical schoolPlease write an essay that answers the following questions: Why is it important to give to others? How do you give to others at home, at school or in the community? 
 
Wesner Media Scholarship
Must be in yearbook or considering a career in journalism.

2. To apply for the following scholarships, turn in one printed copy of your completed General Application to Mrs. Canfield for each scholarship with the name of the scholarship written at the top.  The following scholarships are due April 1st!

Alpha Beta Psi - Mother's Day Scholarship
For all students who will attend a college, university or technical school.  
 
Marnelle Ruthven Memorial Scholarship
Use the MHS General Scholarship Application. Answering questions #2 and #5 is optional.
 

Marilyn Kahan Memorial Music Scholarship

Turn in to Mrs. Canfield
Proposed amount - $500
Description – This is a scholarship for a Mason High School senior interested in studying music at the collegiate level.  Majors include, but are not limited to, music, voice, jazz, instrumental, church music, or music education. Requirements – Students applying will need to complete: 1. The general Mason High School scholarship application and 2. A typed explanation of (one paragraph each): A. Music background, including performance experience; B. College major and career plans.
 
Mason County Area Wineries and Vineyards
Any graduating senior seeking higher education is eligible to apply.  
 
Mason County Farm Bureau
Application requires a one page essay telling your feelings about the future of agriculture and the role that you expect to play in agriculture. 
 
Mason Lion's Club Student Service Scholarship
For any senior seeking further education
 
Melvin Burns Memorial Scholarship
Must have participated in multiple varsity sports. 
 
Mendy Mahnken Memorial Scholarship
For any senior seeking further education
 
R. Clinton Schulze Lion's Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving high school graduating senior who is planning to enter the field of education. Scholarship awards are based on merit and need for financial assistance. Consideration will be given to academic performance and future potential as determined by grade point average and participation in academic and educational-related activities.

3. The following scholarships use the General Application and should be turned in using the guidelines specified by each scholarship.  Check the scholarship description for due dates and where to turn them in.

Henry & Lola Hohn Scholarship
Mr. Hohn was the elementary principal and Mrs. Hohn taught Home Ec here at Mason ISD for many years. Their daughter Diane Edge is a high school principal herself, and she, along with her brothers and sisters are offering a senior at MHS the opportunity to apply for this scholarship. 
 
You will email your application to Mrs. Edge, so don't print and turn in to me. Her email address is: [email protected].
Please note the following information:
Strong consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate as many as possible of the following criteria:
  • Are the first members of their family to attend college
  • Either because of personal circumstances or the socioeconomic climate of your community have not had the opportunity for enriching educational or personal experiences
  • Have achieved success despite hardship or unusual challenge
  • Exhibit excellent potential to benefit from further education
If any of these apply to you, it would be a good idea to address these four bullet points in the email when you attach your application and send it to Mrs. Edge.  Due April 15th
 
Julie Gamel Memorial Scholarship
Deadline is April 15th. Email your completed application to

John Henry Hofmann Memorial Scholarship 
Students must be planning to study law after graduating from a four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree. In addition to the General Scholarship Application, please include a 250 word essay explaining why you plan to study law. Email complete applications to [email protected] by the deadline of April 15th.
 
Mason Square Museum - not offered in 2021
Use the MHS General Scholarship Application. Answering #5 is optional. $1,000 scholarship.  Preference given to student interested in history. Application requires an essay based on one of these topics: 1) Fort Mason 2) Geology in Mason County. 3) Herman and Willie Lehmann and their Mason County connection. Central Texas Electric Rural Scholarship Program

CTEC awards 25 $1,000 scholarships to students whose primary residence is served by CTEC. Applicants must have two letters of recommendation from school personnel. Mrs. Canfield will email it to you when it is made available.

FCCLA
Must be a member of FCCLA to be eligible. Due April 8th
Geneva Keller Scholarship
Completed applications must be emailed to Glendene Underwood by April 1st.  Please see documents linked below for information, eligibility, requirements and application. Email your application as a pdf to [email protected].
Herman & Herman Scholarship
The 4th annual Herrman & Herrman scholarship that your students are eligible to apply for. Applicants must discuss innovation within the automotive industry, and how technology is making an impact. $5,000 in scholarship prizes will be awarded, and the deadline is December 1st. Hill Country Horse Club Scholarship

For ag-related majors, careers. Write an essay about your choice of ag related major. Due May 18th in Fredericksburg. Send to: Hill Country Horse Club Scholarship, C/O Lauren McBride, PO Box 4, Fredericksburg, Texas 78624.

Hill Country Telephone Co-op

Your parents/guardians must be members of Hill Country Telephone Co-op telephone service for you to be eligible. Applications are on-line. http://www.hctc.net

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship

This is not a local scholarship, but the application is available here. Mrs. Janice Marie Scott (nee: Holmes) was a victim of the attacks by terrorists on September 11, 2001.  She was among the 125 individuals that were killed in the Pentagon when terrorists took over and crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into that building on the morning of September 11, 2001.   As a result, the family members of Mrs. Scott created the Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund in October 2001 to honor her legacy.  You must attend a four year college or university and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extra curricular or other activities.

Kent Stehling Insurance

Scholarship Rules and Regulations:

  • Your parents, grandparents, or you must be a current customer of Kent Stehling Insurance Agency.
  • Must be a graduating Senior attending Fredericksburg Independent School, Heritage School of Fredericksburg, Harper Independent School, Mason Independent School, or Ambleside School.
  • Must be attending an accredited school to further your education, i.e.: college, technical school, military school, etc.
  • MUST COMPLETE the attached application and either mail to our office at 625 W. Washington St., Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 (ATT: Pat) or return the completed application to our office.
  • You may attach your resume’; however, our application MUST be filled out, also.
  • Deadline: March 30th
Landon Scholarship Trust

For a student who will attend Texas A & M. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and involvement in school and community activities. Financial need is considered but not necessarily the determining factor.  Google the application.

  1. As a student who has been through a pandemic, what should be the role of the government in such a situation?

Michael O'Malley Memorial Scholarship

The year 2012 marks the nineteenth time that the Texas Medical Association’s Young Physician Section will award its rural science scholarship. This $1,000 award is given to a rural Texas high school senior who excels in science, for use toward continuing his or her education in the field of medicine.  Applications must be postmarked by and sent via mail to: Texas Medical Association, YPS Coordinator, 401 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701. The scholarship winner will be notified by mail in March and is expected to attend the TexMed Conference in Dallas on May 18th to receive his or her award (travel assistance is available).

Milton & Janie Jordan
Must be an active participant in Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF). Must attend a church affiliated college or university. due April 1.
Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program
For students who aspire to be English or math teachers. A full ride scholarship which includes a tablet computer and a $6,000 study abroad experience. Must attend Ol' Miss or Mississippi State University. mUst have ACT of 28 to be considered a competitive applicant.  Find the application on the website: http://metp.org/
 
Pedernales Electric Co-op Scholarship

$500 Scholarship Due March 21st

PEC is now accepting applications for our Scholarship Program! To qualify, high school seniors must have a parent or a legal guardian who is a PEC member in good standing. This year, a total of $100,000 in scholarships will once again be distributed to students throughout our service area. Applicants will be required to complete an application and submit an essay written for the following topic:

 

“How would a PEC Scholarship help you achieve your educational and career goals?”

Texas Builders Foundation
Scholarships available for students pursuing a construction related trade certification or construction degree. 
Due March 30th
Puncher Club Scholarship

Must have played two sports and parent/guardian must be a current member of Puncher Club to be eligible to apply for this scholarship.

San Angelo Alumni Association's Scholarship

The application is for a $1,000 scholarship and is due April 2nd.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church

Only members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church are eligible. See Father for details. Due April 7th

Texas Exes Scholarship

Must attend the University of Texas at Austin to receive the funds. They will be paid directly to the UT financial aid office. Turn in to Mrs. Canfield. Due April 1.

Texas State Geneological Society

For students who will major in one of the following fields of study: history, government, library science or education. Deadline is May 1st, 2009. See Mrs. Canfield for a copy of the application.

For students who will attend Texas Tech.
Texas Sheep & Goat Raiser's Association

This year we again offer three types of scholarships:

-Students from Texas Hill Country Counties pursuing a degree in Agriculture

 

-Students from throughout Texas who participated in the Make It With Wool Contest.  (This scholarship was awarded in January, in conjunction with the American Sheep Industry Convention held in San Antonio)

 

-Students from throughout Texas who are the son or daughter of a Texas State Trapper.  They do need to be accepted to a College, University, or Trade school, but do not need to major in Agriculture.

 

Time is valuable to students and teachers alike, and the Committee strives to make the application process as simple as possible.  All required documentation, including transcripts, must be submitted by mail at the same time, and must be received by April 15, 2017.  Any incomplete entries, or those received after April 15 will not be considered.

 

This is a highly competitive scholarship contest, with awards ranging from $250 to $2000 per student.  The application includes some questions reflecting financial need, but it is most important to stress that the awards will be based on the Committee's impression of each student as presented by their written essays.  References submitted with the application will be contacted for verification.

TILF Scholarship & Sam & Kathy Elliott Scholarship for 1A/2A Students
This is for students who have competed at STATE in a UIL Academic Event. (OAP counts but Music does not.) It's not an automatic scholarship, but all of our students who have applied have received at least $1,000. The application opens on March 1. (Set a reminder on your calendar to apply.) If you are in a late UIL contest, you can email updates to your application.
 
TTA Foundation High School Scholarship
Vernon West Memorial Scholarship

West Texas Historical Association
Scholarship for those Interested in the Study of the History and Culture of West Texas. In the Amount of $750. Scholarship is open to both high school seniors with a proven interest in history and historical research and undergraduate college students with a proven interest in history and historical research who also are declared history majors. Central Texas Master Gardener
$1000 offered by the Central Texas Master Gardeners Association to students graduating this year.  The requirement is that they must be planning to pursue a field of study in agriculture.  The application may be sent by email to this email address or by mail to 3295 E U.S. Highway 190  Rochelle, Tx  76872.  Applications  must be returned by April 15.

Texas Tech Alumni Scholarship
Hill Country Cattlewomen: See applications and information in the links below. 
We are the Texas Tech Alumni Association Heartland Chapter and we are excited to offer scholarship opportunities to 2023 high school graduates.  
 
We are offering up to $1000 given to at least one high school student from each active county that participates in the TTAA Heartland Chapter.  The application is due back to the scholarship committee no later than midnight CST on Sunday, March 26, 2023.  We will announce the recipients no later than May 1, 2023.
 
Attached is the TTAA Heartland Chapter 2023 Application Form in a PDF format and we are asking that the application be filled out in the student's handwriting.
